What is HEIC and why convert it?
HEIC is a high-efficiency image container commonly used for photos captured on Apple devices. It can preserve strong image quality in less storage space, but some websites, editors, office tools, and older devices do not accept it. Converting a copy to PNG, JPG, or WebP makes the image easier to edit, share, print, or publish while leaving the original HEIC file unchanged.
Which image format should you choose?
Choose PNG when you need lossless output or a workflow that supports transparency. Choose JPG for photographs, email attachments, printing, and the broadest compatibility. Choose WebP for websites and ecommerce pages where smaller downloads and modern browser support matter. The right choice depends on whether fidelity, compatibility, or delivery speed is your priority.
How does browser-based conversion work?
After you select HEIC files, HeicConverter decodes and converts them in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. The generated files remain in browser memory until you download them. Because conversion does not require sending the source images to our server, processing speed mainly depends on your device, browser, image dimensions, and batch size.
“HEIF and HEVC offer better compression than JPEG and H.264, so they use less storage space on your devices and iCloud Photos, while preserving the same visual quality.”
